“Not all superheroes wear capes”…
Meet Rahul Bhowan – a young superhero with a heart of gold.
Rahul, a pupil at The Ridge School in Johannesburg, reminds us that compassion has no age limit. We first met him in 2023 when he joined our incredible #Ride4Hope team for the Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg cycle challenge. Since then, Rahul has become part of the Abraham Kriel Bambanani (AKB) family.
At our Maria Kloppers Campus, Rahul spends hours teaching and playing chess with the boys – sharing not only moves on the board but lessons in patience, confidence, and kindness. His enthusiasm lights up the room, and the boys eagerly count down the days until his next visit.
Recently, Rahul helped start a vegetable garden at our Fontainebleau Satellite Home – a project that grows more than just fresh produce. It’s teaching our boys about nurturing, teamwork, and sustainability.
Rahul shows us that true heroes don’t need capes – just compassion and commitment.

Ontmoet Rahul Bhowan – ’n jong superheld met ’n goue hart.
Rahul, ’n leerder by The Ridge School in Johannesburg, herinner ons dat deernis geen ouderdomsgrens het nie. Ons het hom in 2023 ontmoet toe hy deel was van ons ongelooflike #Ride4Hope-span wat aan die Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg-fietsryuitdaging deelgeneem het. Sedertdien is Rahul deel van die Abraham Kriel Bambanani (AKB)-familie.
By ons Maria Kloppers Kampus spandeer Rahul ure om ons seuns skaak te leer en saam met hulle te speel. Hy deel nie net skaakstrategieë nie, maar ook lesse oor geduld, selfvertroue en vriendelikheid. Sy entoesiasme en vriendelikheid het ‘n groot indruk op hulle gemaak en die seuns tel die dae af tot sy volgende besoek.
Onlangs het Rahul saam met die seuns by die Fontainebleau-satelliethuis ’n groentetuin begin. Dit is ‘n projek wat meer as net vars produkte lewer. Dit leer ons seuns oor sorg, spanwerk en volhoubaarheid.
Rahul wys vir ons dat ware helde nie kappies dra nie – hulle dra omgee en hoop.
